M. Night Shyamalan is one of the most renowned screenwriters of fantasy and horror films. In the feature The Sixth Sense (nominated in 1999 for Best Original Screenplay and Best Director by the Academy), he perfected the use of plot twists, which have become the recognizable mark of his cinema and stories.

Recently, he leapt to TV Series as a producer of Servant (2020) available on AppleTV, of which his daughter Ishana Shyamalan is co-director and co-writer. Now, we’re waiting for the release of Old, his return to intrigue with a disturbing premise:

What if your vacation destination makes you age so old that you only have one day to live.

In Filmarket Hub, we admire risky stories, and for this reason, we wanted to share with you the 10 script lessons from M. Night Shyamalan:

  1. Don’t be a writer director.

If you have a choice among other professions, only do it if it’s the only thing you want to do and if you have no other choice but to do it.

2. The plot comes out of the character.

M. Night Shyamalan came up with the twist ending for The Sixth Sense by asking himself a question “why is the couple not speaking to each other?”
