Once you have gone through one of the most challenging phases of the sales process — the pitch — it’s time to wait for feedback from the producers, executives or investors to find out if your project is going to be selected.

In this post we will talk about how these agents in the film and TV industry communicate their final decision, and what the appropriate and most effective way to answer them is, whatever their verdict.

After finishing a pitch, the ball is in the executives’ court: it is now their turn to make a move and decide what they’re going to do with your project, with the promise of contacting you as soon as the assessment has concluded.

However, while they return to their headquarters to start the decision process (the phases of which we will address later in this post), it’s worth sending a thank you email to the professionals who listened to you, showing your gratitude for their time and the valuable opportunity.

In the same email, you can also take the chance to attach new materials about your project, such as the pilot, the bible, and any additional information that you were asked for during the pitch.

After this, it’s not advisable to send them anything else for at least a month — a long wait that, although overwhelming, is necessary for the agents involved. If you want to contact them anyway, bear in mind that if they tell you that they still don’t have an answer, don’t put more pressure on them ― they will reach you when they’re ready.
