The Lift — How to premier your first film with Amazon Prime
During Sitges Pitchbox 2015, authors Jordi Farga & Daniel Bernal presented their first feature film the Lift. Back then, they received a Special Mention. On the other side of the pond, their project was selected in an Ibermedia lab. And a forum of the SGAE (Spanish General Society of Authors and Editors). This year, the Lift premiered on Prime Video.
Jordi and Daniel met in the Madrid film school ECAM, where they started writing together. Jordi focuses on screenwriting, and Daniel works both as a screenwriter and as a director. From the first hangover, we knew we worked well together, Daniel tells us. They started working together on a comedy about football when, between beers, they started to play with the idea of The Lift.
It was like with couples in the first years: we didn’t fight much, then, with the growing trust, we started discussing more…now we’re on the established phase, we’re more comfortable and the discussion is more free-coming, Jordi recalls.
However, they say, this was also a result of the dynamics established during their course in ECAM, where feedback was quite straightforward among peers and teachers. It was encouraged as such. Which might have brought them some issues later on.
